Cognitive-Developmental Science Curriculum

Students have the option to complete a dual concentration in developmental science and cognitive psychology or developmental science and social psychology. Students who choose this option complete all requirements for both concentrations.

All graduate students complete the general psychology core, the research skills core, a master’s thesis, and a doctoral dissertation. The combined cognitive-developmental science curriculum consists of 61 hours plus thesis and dissertation.

First-Year Project

Advanced Coursework

  • HD561/562 Theories/Dynamics of Families, HD535 Parent/Child Relationships, or HD664 Family Crises
  • Two of the following: HD602 Infant Development, HD602 Adolescent Development, or HD512 Adult Development or approved alternative
  • PY693 Seminar in Psychology – 15 hours (3 hours in developmental, 3 in HDFS, 3 in cognitive development, and 6 in cognitive)
  • PY695 Teaching of Psychology
  • PY625 Contemporary Issues: 4 hours Developmental Proseminar; 3 hours Cognitive CI (register for 7 different semesters)
