Professor Emeritus Paul Weisberg Obituary

Paul Weisberg, Professor Emeritus of psychology at The University of Alabama, died February 20, 2016 at Heritage Health Care in Tuscaloosa. He was 81.

Dr. Weisberg joined the faculty at the University of Alabama in 1968. In 1970, he established the Early Childhood Day Care Center in a former nursing school building, just south of Gordon Palmer Hall on Hackberry Lane in Tuscaloosa. For over 20 years, its mission was to prepare pre-school children for success in elementary school. He was particularly effective in improving all academic performance through the use of “direct instruction” methods and curriculums. This resulted in children mastering reading and math at unprecedented levels. Tuscaloosa City Schools adopted many of these programs in its schools.
