The Anna Gordon Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Anna Gordon Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in 2011 to honor the memory of Anna Elizabeth Gordon, who was a psychology major at UA. The friends and family of Anna Gordon established this fund.

Anna Elizabeth Gordon was born in 1987 in Fayette, AL, to Pamela G. and Christopher P. Gordon. She had one sibling, her sister Victoria. Anna graduated in 2005 from Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa, AL, as the class valedictorian. She went on to earn her BS from UA in psychology and Spanish with a minor in Blount Studies, graduating summa cum laude in 2009. While at UA, Anna was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, Golden Key, and a host of other scholastic honoraries. She received the inaugural Norman R. Ellis Endowed Scholarship from the Department of Psychology in 2008, the Recognition for Academic Excellence by a Major in Psychology in 2009, and the Outstanding Senior Award from the Blount Undergraduate Initiative in 2009.

In the spring semester of her senior year at UA, Anna was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. After undergoing chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant, she was hired as an Admissions Counselor for Alumni and Volunteer Recruitment in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, where she worked from 2010 to 2011. Ultimately, Anna lost her battle with leukemia and passed away on May 9, 2011. The scholarship was established the same year to honor her memory.

Throughout her battle, Anna was an inspiration to others. She was determined to continue her education and lead a productive and meaningful life. The Anna Gordon Scholarship is awarded each year to a senior psychology major, with priority to a student with an interest in research and who has great potential to succeed in the field of psychology.
