Research Interests:

Psychopathy/Externalizing Psychopathology: I am interested in psychopathic personality conceptualizations that emphasize universal personality domains and de-emphasize criminal behavior. I am particularly interested how non-criminal psychopaths differ from criminal psychopaths on intellectual, neurocognitive, emotional, personality, and contextual variables. Furthermore, I continue to be interested in assessing psychopathic personality traits with clinical assessment instruments, such as the MMPI-2 and MMPI-2-RF.  In addition to psychopathy, I am also more broadly interested in the construct validity of externalizing psychopathology in terms of hierarchical structure, neuropsychological mechanisms, and temperamental underpinnings.

Personality Assessment: Much of my research background to date have focused on construct validation of the MMPI-2 and MMPI-2-RF. I have continuously received external grant funding from the University of Minnesota Press to conduct research on the utility of these instruments in a variety of clinical and forensic settings. Most recently, I have been examining how the MMPI-2-RF maps on to contemporary models of personality and psychopathology. Another more applied research agenda within the domain of personality assessment focuses on the over- and under-reporting of psychopathology and personality. A significant portion of this research to date has emphasized the MMPI-2 and MMPI-2-RF validity scales and their utility in detecting those engaging in dissimulated responding.
