| Research Interests: |
Dr. Klinger has primary research and clinical interests in the field of developmental psychopathology, particularly in the area of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Her current research examines the attention, memory, and learning abilities of children with ASD. Specifically, she is interested in identifying cognitive impairments in children with ASD that are present from the first year of life and that can be used as early diagnostic markers of the disorder. Additional ongoing research conducted in collaboration with graduate students includes examining the effectiveness of social skills groups for high-functioning children with ASD, examining joint attention and nonverbal communication impairments in ASD, and examining the overlap between ASD and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. She directs the University of Alabama Autism Spectrum Disorders Research Clinic. |
