John Adams

John is a 1st-year student working with Dr Will Hart. His current research applies the cognitive theory of spreading semantic activation to goal systems. Specifically, he is interested in determining how goals get activated, factors that influence degree of approach toward goals, and where goals come from.  



David Adams

David is a 1st-year student working with Dr. Phillip Gable. He graduated from Murray State University and is interested in the interplay between emotion and visual awareness. He investigates these issues using behavioral and physiological methods such as EEG.


Kelly (Alex) Burton

Alex is a 1st-year social psychology student working with Will Hart. He is interested in persuasion and social-cognitive topics, including how language influences our representation of past decisions.  He is interested in how power variations influence thoughts and behaviors. He received a B.S. from Eastern Kentucky University.

Melike Eger

Melike is a 2nd-year grad student working with Dr. James Hamilton. She has a B.A. from Bogazici University in Turkey and an M.A. from Boston University. Her current research is on interpersonal and neurological mechanisms underlying excessive-illness behavior, as well as intentional vs. unintentional aspects of the sick-role.

Patrick Ewell

Patrick is a graduate student working with Dr. Rosanna Guadagno. He studied close relationships with Dr. Carrie Smith at University of Delaware worked as a research scientist at the University of New Mexico in Dr. Angela Bryan's SHERPA lab. His research interests involve intergroup relations and media effects and self-presentation and competitive
gaming in online environments.

Jessy Minney jaminney@crimson.ua.edu Jessy is a 3rd-year student working with Drs. Rosanna Guadagno and John Lochman. She received her B.A. from SUNY Buffalo where she completed her honor’s thesis  with Dr. William E. Pelham, Jr.  Her master’s thesis with Dr. Lochman examined factors that affect parental engagement in prevention programs. Jessy and Drs. Guadagno and Lochman are conducting research on the applications of social influence for increasing engagement in health-related interventions.

Shannon Murphy
shannon.q.murphy@gmail.com Shannon is a 3rd-year student working with Dr. Debra McCallum and the recipient of a UA Graduate Council Fellowship. Her research interests include social behavior in Internet settings, gender roles, and evaluation research. Shannon completed an enlistment in the United States Air Force and graduated from Valdosta State University.

Nicole Muscanell nlmuscanell@crimson.ua.edu
Nicole is a 5th-year student working with Dr. Rosanna Guadagno. She is interested in social influence, personality and gender differences, and their influence on online behavior. Her dissertation focuses on the role of self-regulatory processes in online social networking behaviors.

Bryan Poole
bdpoole@crimson.ua.edu Before coming to UA, Bryan conducted research on embodied cognition and emotion, and received his M.A. from Middle Tennessee State University.  He is currently researching the effects of emotion and motivation on various cognitive processes, such as time perception and attention.  He examines these processes using both behavioral and physiological (i.e., EEG) measures with Dr. Philip Gable.

Lindsay Rice

Lindsay is a 2nd year student working with Dr. Joan M. Barth.  She received her master's degree from Villanova University studying individual differences in computer-mediated communication and is currently researching individual and gender differences in educational contexts.

Wyley Shreves wbshreves@crimson.ua.edu
Wyley is a 2nd year student working in Will Hart's lab, where he studies Social Cognition and Social Influence. He is currently working on his Thesis examining gender differences in how verb aspect influences self-presentational strategies. 

Gabrielle Smith
gsmith71@crimson.ua.edu Gabrielle Smith is a 2nd-year student working with Dr. Debra McCallum. She is interested in stigma and discrimination as it relates to gender, race and mental health; as well as racial identity and its impact on quality of life. A graduate of Spelman College, she is a SREB fellow and a native Texan.

Marnie Sutton
mlsutton1@crimson.ua.edu Marnie is a 5th year student who is interested in adolescent risk behavior, terrorism, in-group/out-group behavior, and prejudice. Her dissertation focuses on threats to resources group identity as possible causes of prejudice and discrimination against Muslims.  She is working with Dr. Debra McCallum.
