Graduation Paperwork

Listed here is most of the paperwork needed for graduation that must be initiated by the student. The Graduate School will also prompt some paperwork that is not listed here. All forms listed here are linked below and also available at graduate.ua.edu/academics/forms. Completed forms should be given to the Departmental Administrative Assistant for signature of the Department Chair or Director of Graduate Studies and forwarding to the Graduate School. The completed thesis or dissertation should be brought to the graduate school by the student.

Master’s Degree

Admission to Candidacy form. 4 copies, signed by the Director of Graduate Studies or the Department Chair, after 12 or more graduate hours are completed with a B average or better. Must be filed before Application for Degree is filed.

Application for Degree form. 2 copies, signed by the Department Chair, due early in the semester student expects to graduate (deadline varies by semester, but is in the first 2 weeks)

Thesis Title Card. 1 copy, signed by the Director of Graduate Studies or the Department Chair, due mid-semester of the semester student expects to graduate (deadline varies by semester)

Completed thesis. due mid-semester (deadlines vary by semester). Also, an electronic copy of the raw data must be submitted to the Psychology Department.

Doctorate Degree

Application for Degree form. 2 copies, signed by Director of Graduate Studies or Department Chair, due early in the semester student expects to graduate (deadline varies by semester, but is in the first 2 weeks). Note that the Admission to Candidacy form for the PhD degree is filed after the preliminary oral defense meeting, so is not listed here.

Dissertation Title Card. 1 copy, signed by the Director of Graduate Studies or the Department Chair, due mid-semester of the semester student expects to graduate (deadline varies by semester)

Completed dissertation. Due mid-semester (deadline varies by semester). Also, an electronic copy of the raw data and of the dissertation text must be submitted to the Psychology Department.

Departmental Bound Copies. 2-3 copies of the dissertation must be submitted to the Psychology Department. More details.
